It is not really practical to carry out a detailed inspection of every joint and connection in an electrical distribution system so it is usual to carry out an inspection of a representative sample. The visual inspection should be made of the component parts that make up a distribution system such as; switchgear, distribution panels and luminarie points and socket outlets, ensuring that all terminal connections of the conductors are correctly installed and secured. Any signs of overheating of the conductors or terminations of the equipment will be investigated in greater detail and reported upon.
It is recommended that a 10% (minimum) sample of switching devices should receive a comprehensive visual inspection to all accessible internal components to assess the electrical and mechanical condition. If TEGG Testing, thermal imaging or ultrasonic testing has been carried out, the 10% should include any components that highlighted potential problems.
We check that the devices for electrical protection, isolation and switching are installed, accessible and clearly identified. We establish that each circuit is adequately protected with the correct type, size and rating of fuse or circuit breaker. The suitability of each protective and monitoring device and its respective overload should be verified as correct.
